Tom Coughlin Shows Support For NYPD Officers After Tragedy

ST. LOUIS, MO (CBS) -- New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin showed his support for the New York City Police Department on Sunday as his team prepared to take on the St. Louis Rams. Coughlin decided to wear a black strip on his left shoulder and a peace sign pin underneath the "NY" logo on his blue pullover.

The Giants said that the gesture was Coughlin's way of showing his support for Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, the two New York City police officers who were shot and killed while sitting in their patrol car in Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon.

Sports have become a canvas for expression in light of the recent conversation following a grand jury decision to not indict New York City police officer Daniel Pantaleo after the death of Eric Garner.

Many athletes throughout the country, including LeBron James and several members of the Brooklyn Nets, wore "I Can't Breathe" tee shirts to show their support for Garner and to raise awareness regarding police brutality.
