'Tis The Season For Digital Deals
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Although the amount spent today is expected to hit a record, for the second year in a row the number of people taking part in Cyber Monday has actually declined a bit.
Online deals that started in early November have had an impact.
Now it's no longer about one day of sales, but a season of digital deals.
Professional shopper and stylist Alison Kahn gets some of her best buys on Cyber Monday.
"The percentages are better. 40 percent off, nobody doesn't like that. 30-percent off. Free shipping," she says.
This Cyber Monday is on track to be the biggest e-commerce sales day in history.
Heavy traffic temporarily slowed some retail websites, including Target's, as the online shopping rush got into full swing.
If you're like Alison and prefer to park yourself on the couch instead of maneuvering the parking lot at the mall, there are some things to remember, when shopping online today and any day, for that matter:
1) You should confirm a website is secure before entering any information. Look for an "s" after "h-t-t-p" in the u-r-l or the word "secure".
2) Paying with a credit card will offer more protections than if you're paying with a debit card.
3) Check statements regularly to make sure the only charges are ones you've made.
4) Be sure to keep a record of order confirmations and receipts.
