Police: Tires Slashed On 9 Vehicles In South Philadelphia

By Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say nine vehicles had their tires slashed in South Philadelphia overnight, and now one man has been arrested in connection with the vandalism.

Philadelphia Police Lieutenant John Stanford says police received a call around 1 a.m. from the 1000 block of Ellsworth Street.

A witness told police someone had slashed tires in that neighborhood. The description was put out on police radio and officers spotted him a short distance away.

"This is just one of those crimes that has a great impact on your pocket. Most people are working hard every day, and this is one of those expenses that you don't plan for. No one anticipates purchasing new tires because of an overnight event where someone decided to vandalize your car or slash your tires."

Police say the 29-year-old man is Norman Bogiel, charged with Criminal Mischief, Possessing An Instrument of Crime, and related offenses. Stanford says if the suspect is convicted, he may have to make restitution to the victims.
