'Time Out America' Names 'Vetri' Best Italian Restaurant In Country

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- People around the country are starting to find out what Philadelphians have known for a while.

Some of the best Italian food is right in our backyard.

"Time Out America" just named "Vetri" the best Italian restaurant in the country.

The website describes meals at the Washington Square West restaurant as "once-in-a-lifetime."

That award comes just a few weeks after Marc Vetri agreed to sell most of the restaurants in his group to Urban Outfitters.

KYW's Hadas Kuznits spoke with Vetri about the accolade.

Vetri had a mixed reaction to being called the best Italian restaurant in America by Time Out United States.

"I think that eating is so subjective so it's hard to be like, oh yours is the best, yours is the second best, yours is the third best. I don't think of things like that," said Vetri.

But he was certainly pleased.

"It's really awesome to be on that list with all those awesome restaurants, for sure."

Vetri continuously seems not only to receive recognition, but to produce notable chef alumni.

"I think that the one thing that we really force the issue with here is the mentoring."

Kuznits also asked Vetri about his very prominent online presence.

"And I've had some Twitter wars but they're all fun. At the end of the day, when someone is like literally yelling at me on social media, I'm like laughing about it."

(Kuznits:) "Does that get you more customers?"

"I think it does! Yeah!"

Another local spot -- "Zeppoli" in Collingswood -- is ranked 20th on the list.
