PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Those who love to run got a chance to participate in an event on Sunday with the perfect name: The Love Run!

It's the city's newest half marathon.

"We wanted to do a spring half marathon in Philadelphia and we wanted to bring together the love of running and all the great sights and sounds of Philadelphia."

About 10,000 runners participated in the half marathon that started near Eakins Oval.

Many say this is a great warmup for other upcoming events.

"This is an early season training day for a lot of races to come in May and June."

And the wet weather didn't slow anyone down.

"This would be my favorite weather to run in. It is actually perfect."

The Love Run raised $20,000 and presented a check to Mayor Michael Nutter for the Philadelphia Education Supplies Fund.

"We donate 'x' number of dollars per entry and then the runners were also asked if they would like to donate any money as well."

Organizers say they plan to make the Love Run an annual event and each year they will raise money to various charities that benefit the city.
