Thousands Of Librarians In Town For Mid-Winter Conference

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Thousands of librarians from around the country were in Philadelphia on Saturday for a mid-winter conference.
Budget cuts and an ever changing technical world keep librarians now a days on their toes.
Wendy West has a masters degree and works at University of Albany.
"Everything has become digital and electronic and its far more complicated work than it was in the print," West says. "We have less staff, more complicated work, it requires a whole different skill set, so its harder to use clerical stuff. We are finding that you really need higher level skills and those are hard to come by."
The American Library Association's Midwinter Meeting & Exhibits is expected to draw 10,000 library and information industry leaders.
There are more 2,000 meeting and events and more than 400 exhibits showcasing things like the latest books, videos and computers.
The conference is taking place at the Pennsylvania Convention Center now through Tuesday.
