The Bearded Ladies Cabaret And Opera Philadelphia Collaborate For Popera

By RJ McKay

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Bearded Ladies Cabaret group and Opera Philadelphia are collaborating on ANDY: A Popera.

John Jarboe, director and librettist of ANDY, gives a brief overview:

"We're telling the story of a little boy who becomes a brand. The journey of a man to a phenomenon. This is not a biopic. You don't need to look it up on Wikipedia. You're just going to come and be part of the story Warhol now."

John says the idea got started through"The Bearded Ladies, which is a queer experimental cabaret in Philadelphia, has been wanting to do a Warhol piece for a long time. David Devan from Opera Philadelphia and I decided to do it together. So, this is an unprecedented collaboration between a cabaret company and an opera company."
