The Archdiocese Of Philadelphia Is Sounding A Call To Prayer

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With the Roman Catholic Church's year of mercy soon drawing to a close, the archdiocese of Philadelphia is inviting the community to gather for a special observance of prayer.

Fr. Dennis Gill, rector of the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, said with about a month remaining in Pope Francis' declaration of a Year of Mercy, it's time to turn to God to ask his help in our world.

"We need to pray for peace. We need to pray for an end of terrorism," Gill said. "We need to pray for the sacredness and protection of life. We need to pray for married people, for families. The list goes on and on and on."

Gill said a Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary is being observed on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Cathedral.

He said all are invited to attend and unite their petitions and prayers to the Mother of the Church and Patroness of the nation.
