Thanksgiving Family Time Starts Early For Those Driving To Their Destinations

By Hadas Kuznits

CHERRY HILL, N.J., (CBS) -- One of the ways folks are getting to their loved ones this Thanksgiving holiday is by car.

Folks at the Walt Whitman Travel Plaza off the New Jersey Turnpike in Cherry Hill who hit the road early tell KYW Newsradio they were pleasantly surprised with their Thanksgiving road trip.

(Kuznits:) "How has the drive been?"

"So far, so good. We made it out of Manhattan in 25 minutes."

"So far, not as bad as last year."

Where are they headed?

"We're going to DC."

"We're headed to Chantilly, Virginia."

"Delaware from New York. I picked up my mom from Long Island."

For many, the family time started on the drive.

"We like road trips. I mean, there are topics of conversation that come up in an enclosed area that don't in other situations."

Patrice Williams sure can attest to that. She spent the day in the car with her mom and great aunt. What did they discuss?

"Menopause!"

(Kuznits:) "I see it's an educational road trip."

"Yes!"

(Kuznits:) "The conversations are good, is what you're saying!"

"They're very spirited!"
