TGI Fridays Sued Over Absent Drink Prices

By Pat Loeb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Some New Jersey customers are not thanking anyone for Fridays. They've sued the restaurant chain, claiming it tricked them into buying over-priced drinks.

The TGI Fridays menu boasts some incredible bargains, but attorney Sander Friedman says one thing you won't find on the menu...drink prices.

"It is our allegation that (TGI) Fridays would not be able to extract as much for those drinks," he says, "if they were informing the public through their menu."

Friedman has filed suit on behalf of a client who ordered a drink at the Evesham outlet of the chain and didn't learn until the bill came that it cost over $10.

"He wouldn't have paid that much for a drink had he been informed," the attorney says.

Friedman contends the practice violates New Jersey's consumer fraud law. He's seeking penalties of $100 for each beverage sold without the price being listed. Is that a bit of an overcharge? Friedman doesn't think so.

"Shame on (TGI) Fridays," he says. "They should start putting prices on the menu."

TGI Fridays declined comment.
