Text On April Fools' Day Causes Shooting Hoax At Pennsylvania High School

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Police and school officials are investigating after a Pennsylvania high school student sent her mother an April Fools' text about a shooting — only to have the mother call 911.

State College police say officials quickly determined the text was meant to be a joke.

But before that happened Wednesday, seven officers joined a school resource officer and the school district and police began following a planned response to a school shooting.

State College Area School District spokesman Chris Rosenblum says, "The protocols worked on both sides. The district followed them to the letter."

Officials aren't identifying the student or saying what kind of criminal or school sanctions she might face.
