Tens Of Thousands Without Power After Severe Storms Move Through

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The storms, that moved through our area on Wednesday, knocked out power to tens of thousands of customers.

PECO's reported more than 56,000 customers without electric service in the five-county area, with most of the outages in Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery County. Around 5:00 p.m., officials announced that the number had fallen to just under 19,000 with the majority in Delaware County.

Over 17,000 PSE&G customers in Burlington, Gloucester and Camden Counties are disconnected.

Atlantic City Electric reports about 740 outages in Atlantic County, 53 in Burlington County, 371 in Camden County, 448 in Cape May County, 421 in Cumberland County and 4,823 in Gloucester County.

In Delaware, 4,020 New Castle customers are without power. 179 customers are without it in Sussex and 95 are without it in Kent.

Right now, crews are assessing the damage so there are no estimates yet on when power will be restored.
