Temple's Colin Thompson Named To John Mackey Award Watch List

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Temple's Colin Thompson is on the 2016 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List.

The award is given annually to college football's best tight end. Thompson, a red shirt senior, is one of 45 student-athletes on the preseason list.

Thompson, a Doylestown native and Archbishop Wood High standout, spent his first two injury-riddled seasons with the Florida Gators before transferring to Temple. In two seasons with the Owls, Thompson has just 16 catches, but has played in 23 straight games (including 13 starts).

Mackey, an NFL Hall Of Famer, is considered to be one of the best tight ends ever. He was also the first President of the National Football League Players Association.

The award winner is selected by a vote of a selection committee and will be announced on December 7th, 2016.
