Temple To Host Hundreds Of Students During DNC

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - When delegates gather in Philadelphia next summer for the Democratic National Convention, they'll be joined by hundreds of college interns.

"This could be a life changing event for students," says Joe McLaughin, the director of Temple's Institute for Public Affairs.

Two hundred to 300 students from across the nation will experience the Democratic National Convention from the inside.

Temple University is hosting the students, as part of the Washington Center's two-week program that sends interns to each major party convention.

McLaughlin says the students will attend lectures and classes the week before the convention July 25 to 28:

"They will be placed with either the Democratic National Committee, various state delegations, with our local host committee here in Philadelphia. And a lot of them will actually be working with the news media."

Temple is providing scholarships for ten of its own students to attend the DNC, and five of its students to intern at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
