Temple Tailgate Kicks Off Season In South Philly

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Temple's football team took the field for the first time Friday night as the Owls hosted Army in the season opener for both teams.

The weather was absolutely perfect for grilling and chilling, and that's exactly what thousands of fans were doing. Many were fired up to see how Temple would build off of last year's successes, but most people, like John from Havertown, were just happy to have some fun and see the return of football season.

"Well we've been hitting every tailgate down the row here, crashing every one," he said. "We don't know anybody, but we've been having a great time. Temple Owls go baby!!!"

Greg's a sophomore at Temple, and said the turnout at the game was a great way for students to connect and have some fun.

"Oh my god it's great. The atmosphere is great. The parties, the tailgates, are great. Just love Temple football."

Almost everyone said they're expecting big things from the Owls this season.
