Temple Hospital Making Major Strides In Patient Care, Quality

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Temple University officials are thrilled with a new award that shows the hospital is making a major focus on patient satisfaction.

Temple teams have been working hard to improve patient care and quality, and Dr. Henry Pitt, health system chief quality officer, says the hard work has paid off in the latest ranking from the University Health System Consortium -- which ranks the top academic medical centers:

"We were 65th the first year in 2013 and then we were 44th last year and then we jumped to 17th from 44th last year."

He says the ranking identifies improvements in patient safety, mortality, clinical effectiveness, efficiency and patient focus:

"We're assuring our patients that the quality of outcomes of patient care on the inpatient side, particularly, are very high."

He expects Temple to do even better next year.
