Temple Hospital, Holy Redeemer Team Up To Give Patients Advanced Care Closer To Home

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A North Philadelphia hospital is teaming up with a counterpart in the suburbs to offer neurosurgery and neurology services.

Temple University Hospital specialists are now treating patients at Holy Redeemer Health System in Montgomery County. Dr. Verdi DiSesa, Hospital President and CEO says this is part of trend in health care.

"The trend to move services closer and closer to the patient's home," he says, "with the added benefit that Holy Redeemer's patients have a medical center to send patients to if their needs, medical technology or level of medical support they need exceeds what can be provided at Holy Redeemer."

"They are not able to offer these services themselves," he says. "Neurology and neurosurgery can be quite demanding technologically. Often times that kind of technology and expertise is more readily available at an academic tertiary medical center than it is even at the best of community hospitals."

Temple is also offering round the clock telemedicine evaluations for possible stroke victims.
