Teenage Girl Shot, Seriously Wounded While Sitting In Car

PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a teenage girl was shot and seriously wounded while sitting in the passenger seat of a car.

Paterson police say the shooting occurred around 2:10 a.m. Saturday. But it's not clear if the teen or someone else in the car was targeted by the shooter or if the car was moving or parked when the shooting occurred.

The victim, identified only as a 17-year-old Clifton resident, was shot in the back. She was hospitalized in critical but stable condition, but further details on her injuries were not disclosed.

Authorities say that after the shooting occurred, the driver drove to a nearby intersection and the victim called for help. The teen apparently was the only person injured in the shooting.

The driver's name has not been released.
