TD Bank Testing Coin Counting Machines After Accuracy Issue

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A national bank with roots in our area is testing all of its coin counting machines after an unofficial experiment found problems with accuracy.

TD Bank, with its executive offices in Cherry Hill, is launching an enhanced testing program of its so called "penny arcade" coin counting machines.

The move follows a national TV report that several of the machines miscounted quantities of change, in one case, giving back $43 less than what was put in.

TD issued a statement saying it's pulling all of the coin counting machines out of service so they can be evaluated and retested for accuracy. They will be put back in service when they meet the bank's performance requirements.

The bank also says it will step up regular maintenance of the machines.
