You Have A Few Extra Days To Get Your Taxes Done This Year

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Good news procrastinators, you have a few extra days to work on those tax returns.

Tax returns are due April 18th this year. You get three extra days because the 15th is a holiday in the nation's capital, so we all benefit. IRS spokeswoman Jennifer Jenkins says as of late last month, only 40 percent of returns have been filed with most people getting money back.

"As of February 26th, the average refund was $3,164, that was up a little bit," said Jenkins.

She says phishing scams continue to be a problem and she wants taxpayers to know the IRS will not contact you by phone nor email asking for an immediate payment by a specific method. She says contact will be in writing.
