Tasty Event Aims To Help Women In Need

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - A tasty event in Bucks County Thursday evening is designed to raise money to provide scholarships for women in need who are hoping to one day get back into the workforce by furthering their education.

For whatever reason, many times women have had to drop out of school and later in life find it difficult to get back in. For more than two decades, the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Committee sponsors the Gourmet Getaway, a chance for people to sample food and drink from more than two dozen of Bucks County's restaurants, wineries and caterers.

Co-Chair Catherine Cavella says the money raised benefits local women in need, "They are our neighbors who have had difficult times, many times, and we're raising money to help them make a better life."

Since 1983, the fund has provided more than $270,000 to 100 local women who overcame challenges to make a better life for themselves and their families. The event will be held at Spring Mill Manor in Ivyland.
