Target To Begin Phasing Out Gender-Based Signs And Colors

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Target is saying goodbye to gender-based signs in certain departments of its stores.

The retailer says it will no longer use color-codes like pink, blue, yellow and green to distinguish toys and bedding for boys and girls.

Target says, "We never want guests or their families to feel frustrated or limited by the way things are presented. Over the past year, guests have raised important questions about a handful of signs in our stores that offer product suggestions based on gender."

Target says the change is largely due to feedback from customers.

Some of the changes will take place over the next few months.
