Jake Tapper: Democrats Seem Optimistic On Election Chances
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Cable news host Jake Tapper believes Democrats are optimistic about their chances to keep the White House and win back the Senate when election season concludes on November 8.
Tapper told Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT that while anything can still happen, Democrats feel encouraged at the moment by the political landscape.
"The fact that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and others are going after Pat Toomey and Marco Rubio and others makes you think that, wow, they must be seeing stuff in their internal poll numbers that, if not in the public polls, anything is possible, although, it's much more likely that Hillary Clinton wins, but I've had Clinton and Trump operatives tell me that the electorate is so volatile you really never know in the last two weeks what could happen."
He also said that even though neither presidential candidate will appear on his show, it is a lot harder to find politicians willing to advocate for Trump.
"I haven't interviewed Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump since June. That's been clamped down for me. In terms of surrogates, I had Pence once and he popped up on other shows, but not necessarily eager to do my show. I've had Kaine a couple times. First of all, there really aren't that many Trump surrogates left. They're really aren't a lot of people, major Senators or members of Congress willing to go out there and defend him at this stage of the game."
