Man in custody after firing shots at officers in Northeast Philadelphia

A man is in custody after Philadelphia police said he fired shots at officers, drawing a SWAT team to a Northeast Philadelphia home on Friday morning.

The home is on the 7500 block of Verree Road.

A Philadelphia police spokesperson said authorities received a call just before 7 a.m. for a person with a gun. When officers arrived on the scene, a man fired shots at them through the front door.

No injuries have been reported and no officers have fired in the incident, the spokesperson said in an email.

The scene was declared a barricade situation at 7:09 a.m. Just before 9 a.m., officers entered the home and came out with a man in custody.

The 59-year-old man willingly surrendered to officers, according to a police spokesperson.
