Suspect Surrenders After Barricading Himself, Firing Shots At Officers In Allentown During Hours-Long Standoff

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A suspect has surrendered to police in Allentown after an hours-long standoff. Police say 24-year-old Tyler Hartenstine barricaded himself inside of an apartment building along the 700 block of North Meadow Lane early Thursday morning.

Officers were first called to the scene for reports of a suicidal man. After arriving at the scene, officers and nearby residents heard gunshots coming from the building.

During the standoff, police say Hartenstine fired multiple gunshots from a window. Officers returned fire, wounding the 24-year-old.

After surrendering, he was treated at the scene for his injuries and is currently in stable condition receiving medical care.

Hartenstine now faces charges including aggravated assault against a police officer and recklessly endangering another person.

Residents were asked to avoid the area during the standoff but have since been allowed to return to their homes.
