Suspect Shot By Police In North Philly, Critically Injured

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A man is in critical condition after being shot by a police officer in North Philadelphia Friday night.

Police say this happened around 7 p.m. at 8th Street and Fairmount Avenue. According to initial reports, an officer in full uniform riding in a marked vehicle was responding to a report of a person with a gun at 8th and Green Streets.

The officer spotted the suspect, who had a handgun in his waistband. Despite orders to show his hands, the suspect reportedly began to pull the gun from his waist leading the officer to shoot the suspect in the chest.

A loaded, semi-automatic handgun was recovered from the suspect, who was taken to Hahnemann Hospital in critical condition.

An investigation is underway.
