Suspect In Northeastern Pa. Murder Extradited From Mexico

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — A suspect in the 2012 strangulation death of a woman in northeastern Pennsylvania has been extradited from Mexico to face murder charges.

Federal marshals announced Tuesday that 36-year-old Oscar Lozano-Garcia was brought to the commonwealth from Puebla, about 85 miles southeast of Mexico City.

Luzerne County authorities in January announced the arrest in Mexico of Lozano-Garcia in the December 2012 death of 32-year-old Maria Brea.

Authorities said her body was found wrapped in plastic in the padlocked attic of the Hazleton apartment the two formerly shared.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled June 18 in the case.

Court documents don't list an attorney for Lozano-Garcia, who remains in custody.
