Suspect Charged In Connection With South Philadelphia Blaze

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A suspect has been charged in connected with a fire in South Philadelphia on Friday.

Forty-six-year-old Christopher Smith was charged with attempted murder and arson in connection with the fire on Sigel Street.

Investigators say he pushed in a window air conditioner, and then lit a flame.

Minutes later, Smith allegedly returned to the 1700 block of Sigel Street with more accelerant, trapping a woman, man and child.

Police Lt. Jonathan Josey was off-duty in the area and ran to help those people escape.

Josey was recently acquitted of assault charges after video surfaced of him punching a woman the day of last year's Puerto Rican Day Parade.
