Philly Police: Suspect Carrying AK-47 Wanted For Shooting 50-Year-Old Man

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police are looking for a suspect accused of shooting a man with an AK-47 on Saturday in West Philadelphia.

The incident happened in the 300 block of South 54th Street shortly after 1:30 p.m.

Police say the suspect, who was carrying an AK-47, approached Mike Poeng, 50, while he was washing his car and shot him in the hip.

"He's been in three surgeries so far. He does have a rip to his femoral artery. They have had a tough time controlling the bleeding," Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker told Eyewitness News.

The shooter fled the scene and is still on the run from police.

"We know he still has that gun and could still potentially use it against somebody in that community," Walker said.

Walker believes the suspect lives near the crime scene.

The suspect is described as a black male in his late 20s, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and light color pants.
