Convictions in 2012 Rape Of Girl, 12, and Murder Of Brother, 6, In Camden, NJ

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) – A man accused of the 2012 rape of a child and the murder of her younger brother in Camden has been found guilty on both charges.

Thirty-three-year-old Osvaldo Rivera was facing charges of rape and murder in the case.

Officials say he broke into a Camden home in September 2012 and raped a 12-year-old girl. When the girl's 6-year-old brother, Dominick Andujar, tried to protect her, Rivera stabbed the boy in the throat, killing him (see related story).

Rivera then fled the scene to his mother's house. She reportedly drove him to River Road, where he was found by police hiding between a mattress and the wall.

In court on Friday, Rivera was convicted guilty of Murder, Attempted Murder, Aggravated Sexual Assault, Burglary, Terroristic Threats, Felony Murder – Aggravated Sexual Assault, Felony Murder – Burglary, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and two weapons counts.

While officials initially thought Rivera was high on PCP and marijuana, they later said he was not high on anything and had taken a complicated escape route from the home.
