Survey Finds Mother's Value Totals More Than $65K A Year

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A new survey suggests that a mother's value, in dollars, is more than $65,000 a year.

The survey used wage data form the Bureau of Labor Statistics to find the financial value of a mom's contribution to the home.

Consumer analyst Penny Gusner says the contribution is extensive.

"Cooking, driving, helping with homework, taking care of the kids, taking care of their wounds, party planning, the summer activity planning, yard work, fixing up the house, decorating the house, and finding out what the kids are up to, the little private eye part of the job."

The survey was conducted by Insure.com. The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry lists a cook making $34,000 a year and a housekeeper getting $39,000 a year.

Did I mention that hazardous waste removal workers get $44,000 a year?
