Supreme Court Ruling On Casino Tax Worries Bensalem Leaders

BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) -- A recent Supreme Court ruling has municipalities like Bensalem concerned.

The State Supreme Court says the "host fee," a $10 million minimum of the local share assessment that is paid to municipalities, is an unfair tax, as it ends up being a higher percentage on casinos with lower revenue.

Bensalem Mayor Joe DiGirolemo calls the decision devastating, adding it was a key in their support of the casino.

"To make sure that we had the money to hire more police to make our community safe and to help them over there with our police, EMS, and fire.

Chester will also be impacted with Harrah's casino.

The court is giving lawmakers four months to come up with a solution before the ruling takes effect. It does not impact Philadelphia and Sugar House, or Valley Forge Casino Resort.
