According to figures from Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia, every year more than 11,000 animals in the Philadelphia area are put down in kill shelters.

Dozens of no-kill shelters participated in this event in an effort to raise awareness about this issue.

"This event joins together rescues and shelter groups and really brings people together to celebrate adoption, showcase some amazing, adoptable animals that our region has to offer and help get these guys out of shelters and into homes," said Samantha Jones, president of Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia.

The organizations participating ranged from Red Paw, which gives emergency assistance to owners and pets, to New Leash on Life, a non-profit that works with rehabilitating animals and inmates.
