By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The holiday season has kicked off in Philadelphia, as hundreds flocked to Dilworth Park for the first weekend of ice skating at City Hall.

Skaters took advantage of the brand new Rothman Institute Ice Rink on the west side of City Hall Saturday and tell KYW Newsradio it was a blast:

"I think it's awesome, actually! It's a nice place for families and people to hang out and it's been a lot of fun, really."

"I just like that it's in the middle of the city. It just gives you that nice, winter atmosphere."

"This is my second time -- I'm getting better and better.  I think I'm going to try out for the Olympics."

This young man tells KYW Newsradio the ice rink is the perfect date spot:

"Yeah, it's going well, date #5!"

(Reporter) "Nice! Fun, a little excitement?"

"Yeah, you know do something to change it up."

And folks say the location couldn't be better:

"City Hall's gorgeous. You're just around all of these huge, gorgeous buildings.  It's amazing, yeah, it's perfect."
