Subaru Making Good Move For Camden

By George Polgar

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The announcement that Subaru plans to move from Pennsauken and several satellite locations to a new HQ in Camden's Gateway District next to Campbell Soup, coincides with good business news and a Wall Street buzz for its parent Fuji Heavy Industries.

Steeped in a legendary tradition of customer loyalty, always an independent niche player, Subaru is the 9th largest carmaker in the US with sales increases of 23.6 percent in recent monthly tallies.

Subaru has a strong ground game led by the perennially popular Forester small SUV. The latest update of the popular WRX STI proves that even a rally car packing a performance bred turbo 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer engine, can be family friendly with four doors ample back seat and great hatch space.

A recent test drive of the 2015 Legacy GT underscored Subaru's ability to standout in the competitive $22,000 to $30,000 mid-sized sedan category. The Legacy is distinctive looking with a deep raked windshield and elongating accent lines, and even proves boisterous on the road with the 6-cylinder engine option.

Beleaguered Camden could certainly use some of that Subaru brand luster.
