Study: Skin Cancer More Deadly When Caught During Pregnancy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Researchers found women diagnosed with melanoma during pregnancy or the year after have a greater risk of the cancer recurring or spreading, or death.

The study looked at hundreds of medical records.

Researchers say hormones or changes in the immune system during pregnancy may drive the cancer.

Researchers recommend women given a melanoma diagnosis during or within one year after child birth should regularly follow-up and monitor for recurrence.
