Study: Power Naps Significantly Improve Memory Performance

SAARBRUCKEN, Germany (CBS) – According to a team of researchers from Saarland University in Germany, an hour long nap can greatly improve memory performance.

The study used 41 participants and tested their ability to remember single words and pairs of words.

Researchers say once the learning phase was over, half of the participants slept while the others watched a DVD.

Afterwards, participants were then re-examined and researchers say the individuals who napped were shown to have remembered significantly more word pairs than those who had watched the DVD.

Researchers say the study "has shown that even a brief sleep can significantly improve retention of learned material in memory."
