Study: Happy Employees Are More Productive

COVENTRY, ENGLAND (CBS) – Happy people are more productive at work, a new study reveals.

That's the latest research from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom, which found that happier people were 12% more productive on the job.

The study, which will be published in the Journal of Labor Economics, included four experiments and 700 participants.

"The driving force seems to be that happier workers use the time they have more effectively, increasing the pace at which they can work without sacrificing quality," said Dr. Daniel Sgroi, one of the study's three lead researchers, on the University's website.

Of course, happiness at work might be hard to come by: A 2013 study showed that just 30% of employees feel engaged or inspired by their job.
