Study: Denying Licenses To Immigrant Drivers Bad For Pa.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A new report from Temple University Law School suggests that denying licenses to undocumented immigrants is bad for Pennsylvania.
The Sheller Center for Social Justice at Temple Law School conducted a survey of more than 200 immigrants in Pennsylvania. And it focussed on the state's policy denying licenses to undocumented immigrants.
"Folks who were surveyed had problems getting access to basic to things like being able to get to medical appointments, getting to school and being able to take better jobs," says Jennifer Lee -- co-director of the Center.
Lee says in some cases, undocumented immigrants choose to break the law and drive anyway. And that creates a safety hazard. She says licensed drivers are safer drivers.
And Lee says denying licenses to those people deprives the state of revenue.
