Students Gather At Kimmel Center For 5th Annual Fox Design Challenge

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Area students gathered Wednesday to help solve Philadelphia's public transit system challenges at the 5th annual Fox Design Challenge.

The event was held at the Kimmel Center. This year, they partnered with SEPTA.

"We're having the students approach the problem of how do you increase mass transit ridership," says James Moustafellos, associate director of Temple University's Center for Design and Innovation, "and relevance in the city that's focused on car culture."

Much the day was spent in group discussions and brainstorming.

"How can we implement the system to have a better exchange for cash instead of using tokens?" said MBA graduate student Tarryn Coleman. "How can we make it easier for visitors to come into the city of Philadelphia?"

But has stepped indicated that they will be taking the solutions into consideration?

"They're very excited about it," Moustafellos said. "At the end of the day, we will have 20 great ideas that they can use to implement to improve the system."
