Students Evacuated For Fire At Montco High School

LANSDALE, Pa. (CBS) -- Students at North Penn High School were dismissed for the day, on Tuesday, after they, their teachers and school staff were evacuated late this morning when a fire was discovered in a school closet.

Multiple fire companies responded to the 11:30 a.m. call at the school located along East Hancock Street in Towamencin Township, just outside of Lansdale.

Students were escorted by staff to the nearby soccer fields.

A district spokeswoman says parents were advised, through the school messenger system and social media, on the dismissal plan. Parents were also advised not to approach the school because fire vehicles were blocking entrances and exits.

Once the fire was under control, crews began clearing the building of smoke and cleanup efforts began.

School officials announced that the high school will open on time, at 7:21 a.m., on Wednesday morning. The day will begin in 6th period, the time when students were evacuated from the building, in an effort to get students back to where their belongings were at the time they had to leave.
