Students Commemorate Memorial Day Singing Karaoke At National Constitution Center

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Memorial Day programming at the National Constitution Center included an opportunity for some patriotic karaoke -- and a group of grade school students turned out to be "Boston Strong."

There were slim pickins' at the Karaoke Station until about 70 students from Dorchester, Boston's largest neighborhood, saw the mic.

Sixth-grader Kaylee from the Murphy School thought about the differences between Boston and Philadelphia.

"Boston is about the revolution," she said, "and Philadelphia is about how they wrote the Constitution."

Murphy School Principal Karen Cahill said many of her students were affected by the Boston Marathon bombings.

"One of the people that got killed, Martin Richard, was a student who lived up the street from us and was friends with many of our kids."

Cahill said many of the parents geared up to run the marathon in his honor.

"Just the whole idea of Memorial Day is special to our kids," she said, "because their hearts have been hurt - they lost one of their own, at 8-years old."

Another 12-year old, Veronica, said everyone was affected.

"It's all about America," she said, "and how brave everybody was, and stay strong."
