Students Collect 1200 Books For Children At CHOP

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The children of the 'Friends Select' school in Center City are giving back to children just like themselves, and their fittingly being called 'Helpful Heroes'.

On Tuesday, students from pre-kindergarten through 4th grade donated books to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in honor of their "Reach Out and Read Program."

The students at Friends Select collected more than 1200 books in March, which they officially donated today.

It was all a part of a partnership with 'Helpful Heroes', a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and encouraging children to give back to other children in need. It was founded by a mother on a mission to teach her own young children the valuable lesson of helping others.

Due to this partnership the students were able to help CHOP as they gear up to launch a new development.

Later this spring, CHOP will be opening a primary care center at the recently completed Health and Literacy Center in South Philadelphia at Broad and Morris streets.

The students worked tirelessly packing the books in boxes before loading them onto a brightly painted red van with the "Reach Out and Read" title plastered along the side.

What a job well-done!
