Strong Thunderstorms Disrupt Power For Thousands In Delaware Valley

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There were some fast-moving thunderstorms that swept across the Philadelphia-South Jersey region this morning disrupting power and causing problems for commuters.

Heavy rain, gusty winds and even lightning woke up a number of folks early this morning.

The downpours left puddles and ponding on area roads and were blamed for a number of accidents.

In Delaware County, SEPTA briefly suspended use of the Route 102 trolleys and put shuttle buses out between McDade Boulevard and Sharon Hill because of high water. But, the trolleys are now back in service.

PECO reports more than 2,800 customers are still without power at this hour - most of those are in Philadelphia and Delaware counties.

In South Jersey, PSE&G reports more than 330 outages.

Atlantic City Electric reports more than 25 scattered outages in its territory.

Utility crews are making progress in restoring electric service.
