String Of Philly Newspapers Sold To New Jersey Circular Company

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Broad Street Media has been acquired by a South Jersey newspaper distribution firm. And the chain plans to expand into up and coming neighborhoods in the city.

Donnelly Distribution, which has been delivering circulars and other advertising since 1976, has acquired Broad Street Media. That includes the Philadelphia Weekly, the Northeast Times and the South Philly Review. Don Russell, also known as beer reporter Joe Sixpack, has been named editor-in-chief.

"We're talking news here. I've been a newspaper man for 40-years, and that's why they brought me in, to increase the news in all our publications," Russell said. "We're not giving up on arts and culture, certainly not at Philadelphia Weekly, but we really want to bring news back in a big way."

And he says "Joe Sixpack" will also be coming along.

"That's a minor part of this," Russell said, "but sort of the attitude we want to bring to these papers is sort of a true, authentic Philadelphia voice, really focusing on the news of these communities."
