Storms Roll Through Area Causing Damage, Outages

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Storms rolled through the area on Monday afternoon. Severe thunderstorms hit Center City Philadelphia around 4:00 p.m.

Dark ominous clouds, frequent lighting and blinding downpours greeted many people as they made their commutes home.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected for the area throughout the evening, posing a threat until around 8:00 p.m. These storms could carry strong gusts of wind and downpours that could slow travel.

PECO reported several outages in the region.

After 4:00 p.m., customers in Bucks County (227), Chester County (901), Delaware County (17,447), Montgomery County (479) and Philadelphia (1,901) were without power. PPL Electric reported outages in Lehigh County (5,568) and Northampton County (4,390).

Delmarva Power reported 16,269 outages in New Castle. In New Jersey, PSE&G reported outages in Burlington County (511), Camden County (261), Gloucester County (228) and Mercer County (11). AC Electric reported a total of 2,656 outages.
