Steve Mason To Miss Home Opener Due To Family Issue

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Flyers General Manager Ron Hextall announced on Monday that starting goaltender Steve Mason would not be on the ice for the Flyers home opener. Mason will miss the game due to a personal family matter the team announced.

No other details on the matter were given.

Monday's game will mark the first time Mason has missed a start against the Panthers since being acquired by the Flyers in April 2013.

Michael Neuvirth will be his Flyers starting debut in place of Mason. Neuvirth faced 22 shots and stopped 19 in the team's second game of the year as he came in to replace Mason who was pulled.
