DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Delaware Valley College officially changes its name today.

From now on, it's Delaware Valley University.

"Today is actually the day that we officially unveil logos and signs, and actually start using the name Delaware Valley University," says Del Val spokeswoman Lauri Ward, who adds that the school is keeping its commitment to being "a small, teaching-centered institution."

But she notes that the title "university" adds some prestige, too.

"It helps us market to international markets," she says, "because in much of the world 'college' is seen as community college or 'grade 13,' and not an institution of higher education."

She says the name has been more than five years in the making.  The approval came in December.

"There's a buzz on campus about this," Ward says.  "Students are really excited, especially our seniors, who have the choice of having Delaware Valley College or Delaware Valley University on their diplomas this May."
