St. Patrick's Day In Philadelphia Is Going To The Dogs....And Cats

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Pennsylvania SPCA is using St. Patrick's Day to promote pet adoption. A week long event gives participants a chance to rack up some big savings towards their pet purchase.

During the St. "Pet" Tricks day celebration, if you adopt an animal from the SPCA you get to reach into the lucky leprechaun's pot for a gold coin that gives you a discount on your adoption.

"Anywhere from $5 to $50," says Angela Schmitt with the Pennsylvania SPCA. "There's also one lucky person that will get a free adoption."

Schmitt says this promotion is helping them pair a pet with just about anybody who's looking for one.

"All of the animals we have here, cats and dogs, kittens, puppies, any animal you adopt from here is part of the promotion," she says.

St. "Pet" Tricks day runs until March 19 at the SPCA on Erie Avenue in Philadelphia.
