St. Joe's Gets Past VCU 69-62

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Langston Galloway scored 24 points — including a pair of free throws in the final half-minute — and DeAndre Bembry 18 as St. Joseph's defeated Virginia Commonwealth 69-62 Saturday night.

The Hawks (16-7, 6-3 Atlantic 10), who played eight in the game, opened some breathing room with a Galloway 3-pointer and a free throw for a 38-30 lead after halftime.

VCU's Juvonte Reddic and Melvin Johnson kept closing the gap. Reddic entered the game with four straight double-doubles, but finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. His score at 1:15 remaining cut St. Joseph's (19-5, 7-2) lead to 65-62, but Galloway and Chris Wilson each hit a pair from the line.

The loss drops VCU into a second-place tie with George Washington in the A-10. Johnson came off the bench to score 14 for the Rams.

Halil Kanacevic scored seven for St. Joseph's with 10 rebounds and seven assists.
